Anthrogen
HQ San Francisco, United StatesFounded 2024
Anthrogen uses AI-designed enzymes make chemicals cheaper and faster than traditional processes using abundant resources as the feedstock. Think Solugen but for more complex metabolic pathways and carbon dioxide/water instead of sugar as a base. Co-founders met as students at Columbia where CEO, Ankit was a Science Research Fellow and Named Scholar (top 10 in class of ~2000). Connor Lee, CTO, also a Named Scholar at Columbia, was the youngest ever president of Columbia Robotics, placing third in the world's largest robotics competition. So far, they have trained their own multi-billion parameter foundation protein language models for enzyme development and created the world's fastest photosynthetic organism. They raised $4M from Box Group, Regen Ventures, Paul Graham, Y Combinator, Wayfinder, and others.
