About Duality
Astro Mechanica's turboelectric adaptive engine (TAE) decouples the fan from the turbine: a separate turbine drives generators that power electric motors on the fan stages, so each can run at its best speed. The company says proof-of-concept test firings using Helix motors have shown supersonic exhaust flow; it plans large high-speed uncrewed aircraft first.
