JDAM tail-kit budget averages are separated from complete bomb bodies, laser sensors, historical R&D and program-wide support.

Air Force procurement budget / tail kit · derived

$83,533

FY2025 request · Nominal USD · source budget basis

Derived from the Air Force JDAM procurement line divided by requested tail kits. Includes procurement support, not a recurring hardware quote; bomb body and separate laser-sensor costs are not implied.

U.S. inventory

Not verified

A current U.S. inventory was not established. Annual procurement, cumulative deliveries and production capacity are not a stockpile count.

Air Force requested tail kits

1,500

FY2025 · U.S. only; stated source scope

Separate from the Navy’s 1,460 requested kits; neither is a current inventory count.

December 2017 SAR · Constant 1995 USD · historical estimate

35-year program estimate in base-year dollars; do not add it to nominal-dollar procurement without normalization.

A guidance kit is not a complete bomb

JDAM adds guidance to existing bomb bodies. The SAR counts tail kits separately from laser sensors, and the service budget lines include procurement support. Cost comparisons must retain those boundaries.

Operations & sustainment

Historical program-wide average annual O&S

$20.358M / yr

December 2017 SAR · Constant 1995 USD · historical estimate

Total-quantity program average over an assumed 35-year life. Not annual spending in 2026 or a per-kit operating cost.

Each row retains its original scope and dollar basis. Changing quantities, service life and inflation can change the estimate without changing the price of building one unit.
