About

The Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) is one of NIST’s six research laboratories. It develops measurement science for advanced communications, including high-speed electronics, wireless systems, antennas, network design, spectrum sharing and public-safety communications. Its work supports the development and evaluation of communications technologies and the understanding of their physical and systems-level performance. It is an internal federal laboratory of NIST, rather than a commercial network-equipment vendor. Research and standards contributions are the appropriate portfolio for this institution; individual deployments or products developed by external companies should not be attributed to CTL merely because they use its measurements or standards.
