About Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory conducts basic and applied research across physical, biological, and environmental sciences, energy systems, computing, and national security. Its large scientific user facilities support researchers from universities, industry, and government. DOE sponsors the laboratory, and UChicago Argonne LLC, managed by the University of Chicago, operates it under contract. Its capabilities cover physical, life, and environmental sciences, alongside computing and engineering. The Advanced Photon Source and other user facilities enable outside research teams to investigate materials, chemical processes, and biological systems at scales difficult to reach in ordinary laboratories.
