About Brookhaven National Laboratory

Founded in 1947, it conducts research in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, energy, and environmental science, and operates major scientific user facilities. DOE sponsors the lab; Brookhaven Science Associates, a partnership of Stony Brook University and Battelle, manages and operates it under contract. Its portfolio includes nuclear and particle physics, photon science, biology, chemistry, energy research, and computing. Brookhaven operates the National Synchrotron Light Source II, a user facility for materials research, and supports multidisciplinary collaborations with universities, industry, and federal partners.
