Executive ministry of the Government of Japan responsible for national defense and the Japan Self-Defense Forces, headquartered in Ichigaya, Tokyo. It became a ministry in January 2007, succeeding the Defense Agency established in 1954, and oversees the Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency.
