The MITRE Corporation is a nonprofit organization that operates federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) for U.S. government sponsors. It operates six FFRDCs, including the National Security Engineering Center sponsored by the Department of War, and others sponsored by the FAA, Treasury/IRS, DHS, HHS and NIST. MITRE has principal locations in Bedford, Massachusetts, and McLean, Virginia.
