Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, commonly called Jefferson Lab, is a DOE national laboratory in Newport News, Virginia.
About Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility
Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility's central mission is studying the structure of nuclear matter with the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF), a superconducting electron accelerator. The lab also advances accelerator science and technology and supports a user community of nuclear physicists. DOE sponsors it; SURATech, LLC operates it under contract. CEBAF provides a continuous electron beam for experiments on quarks, gluons, and the strong force. Jefferson Lab also works on superconducting radio-frequency accelerator technology and operates test facilities for accelerator research. Its work serves a national and international community of nuclear physicists.
