About TriWest Healthcare Alliance
Founded in 1996, it has served both the Department of Defense’s TRICARE program and the Department of Veterans Affairs’ community-care programs. DoD selected TriWest for the next-generation TRICARE West Region contract, covering a 26-state region; the transition from the previous contractor took effect in January 2025. Its operations focus on provider networks, care coordination and health-program administration. VA community-care work is a separate customer and funding stream from DoD TRICARE obligations. Network hospitals and clinicians are service providers, not necessarily facilities owned by TriWest, and advertised contract potential is not the same as annual spending.
