Space domain awareness
Detecting, tracking and characterizing objects and activity in orbit.
Assessment
Case for · why it matters
More than 35,000 objects orbit Earth, and operators lack context for roughly 10,000 of them. Commercial sensor networks now feed government users: LeoLabs licenses its LEO catalog to the Space Force and Office of Space Commerce, and Anduril agreed to buy ExoAnalytic's 400-telescope network partly for Golden Dome work.
Case against · the skeptic’s view
Tracking itself is becoming a commodity (LeoLabs says it tracks 99.3% of DoD's public catalog), so startups must prove harder claims about identification and intent. Government budgets for buying commercial characterization data are still thin, as Citra's own CEO acknowledges.
