About Newport News Shipbuilding

Newport News Shipbuilding's work spans the design, construction, overhaul and repair of naval vessels, with a central role in the U.S. nuclear-powered carrier and submarine industrial base. It combines heavy manufacturing with naval engineering, nuclear-quality work and long-term fleet support. The division operates within HII and should not be counted as an independent parent contractor when comparing consolidated spending. Shipbuilding programs also involve partner yards and major subsystem suppliers, so ownership of a product page does not imply that a single yard produces every component. Skilled trades, engineering, quality assurance and production planning are central to its workforce.
