About

The Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle was a Marine Corps armored amphibious vehicle program meant to replace the 1970s-era Amphibious Assault Vehicle. Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced in January 2011 that he would recommend cancelling it. The program's DoD code also carries the AAV Survivability Upgrade awards, which kept the older vehicles in service.
