Cables and Interconnects
Wire harnesses, cable assemblies, connectors and other interconnect hardware that carry power and signals between the boxes and sensors in a vehicle, aircraft, ship or radar.
Assessment
Case for · why it matters
DoD's industrial capabilities report lists cables and connectors among the component parts that second-tier suppliers such as Amphenol provide to prime contractors and major subsystem builders.
Case against · the skeptic’s view
GAO reports that DoD finds it harder to spot risky sources at the lower tiers of the supply chain, which include small electronic components. Cable and connector makers sit in that tier, so their foreign content and sub-suppliers are less visible than a prime's.
